About Program

Live on the Ring of Fire, be prepared about disaster risk reduction.

Indonesia, which is surrounded by a ring of fire from west to east, is a region of volcanic mountains that is prone to disasters.
Apart from volcanic eruptions, other types of disasters that are very vulnerable include: floods, landslides, tsunamis, earthquakes, strong winds, terrorism, disease outbreaks, community conflicts, droughts, food insecurity and fires.

Village Identification

Increasing community capacity regarding potential disasters in their area is very important to do. How is the approach taken? Here's the description:
  • Prevention is better than cure, rising awareness before a disaster occurs.
  • Identification of potential disasters around the area.
  • An approach through the history of disasters that have occurred in an area.
  • Form a disaster management community group.
  • Activate an existing group, don't create a new one.

Raising Community Awareness

Invite community groups to start planning evacuation routes in their area if a disaster occurs.
  • Local level disaster preparedness training.
  • Make disaster risk maps and potential disasters that may occur.
  • Dividing the roles of each existing community group, assigned according to their roles.
  • Conduct regular simulations to train community preparedness.
  • Share information with other community groups, to be able to help each other.
  • Make community resilience activities needed.
  • Conduct emergency response based on community needs.

Media Education Tool

Every activity in the community requires props or media that make it easier for the community to understand, some of which are:
  • Development of modules or learning guides.
  • Through video or tutorials that are easy for the public to understand.
  • Give examples of practices in other places that have done this successfully.
  • Through games and direct practice will accelerate public understanding.

Monitoring and Evaluation

An activity can be said to be successful if assistance is regularly carried out to form local champions and change strategies according to the situation that occurs, for this it is necessary to do:
  • Periodic monitoring of activities, including providing assistance and strengthening the capacity of local champions.
  • Evaluation is carried out periodically for the community as preparation for new strategies.
  • Collection of field data and community stories as study material.
  • Writing learning as a reflection of an activity and a case study.
